Subject: #00-35 Lancelot, sad news
Hi All, I have some sad news...
Lin Murray phoned Friday morning to say that He & Roberta had to put #00-35
Lancelot to sleep because of advanced cancer. Lancelot was 13 to 14 years old.
He was a gorgeous, fluffy big fellow who was always calm & friendly.
Lancelot originally came from Town Lake Animal Center. Brenda Billings of Austin
Pets Alive bailed him out, and one of her foster parents, LeeAnn Phoenix of
Georgetown took him home for foster care & some vet work before contacting GRR.
Helen Coffman of GRR went out to see the gentle giant, and here was her report
on 04/24/00:
As I drove up to the gate, a beautiful blond Golden along with 2 German
Shepherds met me with tails wagging. There's no mistaking Lancelot.
As I got out of the car, the whole bunch showered me with wagging tails
and sniffing noses. Lancelot was right up there with them. The foster
parents held their dogs while Lancelot and I got acquainted. He's a
big boy, seeming bigger than his 76 lbs. because of his beautiful full
coat. A teddy bear deluxe, I'd say. He enjoyed letting me look in his
ears, look at his newly cleaned teeth, and just pat and hug him. We
went in the kitchen and he plopped down at my feet while we talked. He
has big, brown Golden eyes and a huge grin that says, "Please hug me
some more". His foster parents say he came in somewhat shy, but now
he's playing with the other dogs and has won their hearts. "We'd keep
him if we didn't already have the others". For Lancelot, a little
loving has gone a long way and he is soaking up every bit anyone will
hand out. This gentle boy has a wonderful disposition. He'll be a
great dog for a family who wants a calm, quiet fellow with lots of love
to share.
Gary & I fostered Lancelot. He was handsome & fluffy & calm & quiet, and he got
along with everyone...we really, really liked him.
When Lin & Roberta adopted Lancelot, it was a wonderful match...here are notes
from an email Lindley sent in August, 2000:
"Sir Lancelot is the best thing to happen in this family for a long time. He
loves his daily walks and has really been a bundle of activity in the afternoons
when he likes to play and run around the house. He doesn't like the tile in the
kitchen and dining area as he slips and slides all over and one evening he
bumped his head and got a little dizzy. The expression on his face was
priceless....
The thing that facinates me the most about Lancelot is that he will follow
Roberta and I everywhere we go, and he has not met a dog he doesn't like. We
walk quite often with Bailey and Curly (Max Ploeger's first 2 GRR dogs) and they
get along like old buddies...
Lancelot has become a Longhorn fan and I have a picture of him in a longhorn
hat, he really is cute, next he wants to meet Bevo...
P.S. Lancelot has learned to do a somersault, where he learned it beats me, but
he will some time do one when he is let outside after being by himself for
awhile."
Its sad to think that handsome Lancelot is gone. What a wonderful fellow.
