Remembered
Kailie (GRR #01-121)
Born February 14, 1995 Died November 23, 2007
We said goodbye today to our Kailie. She first came to us in November, 2001 as
a foster dog. Kailie was surrendered to GRR at almost 7 years of age. Her
first family had three little boys and was expecting another baby, so
apparently there was no room for Kailie. The owner brought Kailie to Jean’s
house and we picked her up a couple of hours later.
When we took Kailie to our local veterinary clinic for a checkup and shots,
they told us about a lady in Belton who had just lost her adopted GRR Golden,
Annie, to cancer. The lady, Marjorie Manning, was eager to adopt Kailie. We
had reservations about that adoption due to Miss Manning’s fragile health, but
agreed to let Kailie go to her. Kailie proved to be a tremendous help to Miss
Manning as her constant companion for several years until Miss Manning’s
condition forced her to go to a nursing home. We heard about the situation
and, once again, Kailie returned to us as a foster dog.
In June 2005, we adopted Kailie as our very own. At least once a month Nick
and I took Kailie to visit Miss Manning at the nursing home. The visits were
fun for all of us and Miss Manning was especially happy to get pictures of
Kailie’s activities to show off in the dining room of the nursing home. Since
Kailie had been pretty much confined to the house when she lived with
Marjorie, we tried to fill her days with numerous trips and social events as
often as possible. She also loved to swim at the lake and travel to the Texas
Coast.
Arthritis has made Kailie miserable for quite some time. Recently her
condition rapidly deteriorated to the point where she could barely walk and
needed help getting on her feet. Medication no longer relieved her pain, so we
felt it was time to say goodbye to our dear Kailie.
We loved the spirited little dog very much and are grateful for the time we
had with her.

Kailie
is a lovely 6 year old that comes to us from owners who no longer had
enough time to give her the attention she deserved. She was raised in the
house and is great with kids. She gets this initial foster report:
Kailie's golden personality has emerged and we know she is a sweet, loving
and friendly girl. She appears to be highly intelligent and a quick learner.
She responds to the sit command and sometimes to down. The commands heal,
sit-wait and down-stay don't seem to be in her vocabulary but Nick has
practiced with her a little and thinks she could learn them fairly quickly.
Kailie likes to go for a ride and eagerly jumps into the Suburban. Kailie is
a house dog. She prefers being inside watching TV - especially animals on TV
- to being out in the yard.
After the struggle to crate Kailie the first night, we anticipated problems the second but she marched in with just a little coaxing. The third night she ran in and slept - or at least was quiet - all night. Kailie and Oliver (our GR) are getting along quite well. In fact, too well. 170 lbs. of Goldens energetically wrestling in the family room is a little too much so we make them take it outside! The introduction to the cats is still going very slow but there are signs that, given time, they could all learn to get along. When Emily, the braver of our 2 cats, is in the laundry room and separated from Kailie by a baby gate she wins the staring contest. Kailie will lie down, look away and then walk away. However, when the cats are out of the laundry room and don't stand their ground, Kailie wants to chase. She is a great gal and will make a wonderful pet.
