Remembered

Subject: Radar

Radar passed away today after a stroke. We loved him so much, and he was so happy with us. He was the best dog I've ever known, and he enriched our lives. Having him with us for almost seven years was so wonderful, but we had to let him go.

Radar is a 6 year old male coming form owners who moved and could not keep him.  He is a lovely and happy boy that loves attention.  He gets this initial report: Radar is great.  He is a love bug....in your face, wanting some lovin'!  He is actually pretty spunky for a 6 year old in terms of excitability but he is REALLY sweet, we like him lots. He is great in his crate, just walks in as needed.  Is totally out of shape, has not been walked it seems in a long long time, but we'll fix that! Watch for more as he settles into foster care.

What a great big goofy sweetheart!  Radar is VERY affectionate, and is what Seinfeld would call a "close-talker." His favorite spot is wherever you are.  He loves to get up and cuddle with you, with his head as close as possible to yours!  He is very playful, I don't think I've  met a 6 year old with his energy before, he has the right blend of wanting to play, yet he calms down quickly too.   He loves to play tug-o-war with anything, and will play as long as you are willing.  He will do laps inside the house at times, usually when he has just come in from the outside, and my dogs will simply stand in awe and watch as he circles the room.  He will chase the ball, and even occasionally bring it back, although he makes it quite clear that the object is simply to seek and find, not necessarily recover. Then again, our Sherman is a bit of a ball hog so it is hard to tell.

We have discovered he likes to swim, although he is polite and keeps his water in his water bowl.   We were pleasantly surprised to find that he is house-trained. Since he was previously an outdoor dog, we assumed he would need training. He has not chewed anything inappropriate (except for some trash items), will sleep in his crate (although we stopped using it since he is so trustworthy, even when we are gone, he is free to roam). However, he is a definite garbage hound, and will carry away anything interesting looking from the can.   He also has a knack for hitting the bathroom and sipping from the toilet if we make the mistake of leaving the lid up !

Since he is energetic, he jumps some, but is learning quickly. He understands no, and just needs a little time to learn how indoor dogs act. He loves his daily walk, and is good on the lead. He doesn't pull, although he does sort of roam around a bit. We introduced him to some children, he did super, and was quite gentle. We also encountered a kitty on our walk, he kept looking back for about a hundred yards, expressing some real interest!  He has the potential to be a "bolter"...it hasn't happened yet, but I get the feeling it could. All in all, he is a wonderful family dog, he just needs a little training. His disposition is so great that I know some lucky family will not mind putting in just a little time to teach him about the garbage and other off-limit behaviors!! We will miss him for sure!
